Joining a gym is a huge commitment. I guess I could say I was a bit terrified when I signed a year contract with Heritage Park Fitness, this cute little gym with a daycare about 1 mile from my house. Of course, looking in the mirror for the last six months has also been terrifying for me. I normally don't share a whole lot about my personal issues, but this past year I just let myself go completely. One morning I woke up and didn't care about my appearance or life, and one day turned into two, then a week, then a month and then a year. I gained a total of 50 pounds! I have lots of excuses if people are willing to listen: I am sick, my father is suing me, I am too busy, I look too gross to be at the gym, I will probably just quit anyway, yum that food looks good, a few extra pounds won't hurt! Ok so I've had WAY more excuses than that! I really don't know what it was, getting me motivated to get back into shape, but I am guessing being in Texas has something to do with it. It is hardly ever below 100 degrees here and my legs sure don't look good in a pair of shorts. My husband is getting ready for a nine month deployment and I also know it's going to be real tough chasing after a four-almost five year old-, and managing teens and hopefully working (still no news on the job front) if I weigh 50 pounds overweight, have borderline diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol...plus thyroid disease and Lupus. Yes, I am one of those people who has all the medical conditions and is obese. I can actually see myself in ten years if I don't get back into shape and stay in shape. I am that middle age lady riding the scooter through the store, knocking over cans and running into small kids and pregnant ladies...I have big swollen ankles, a grouchy mean attitude and a purse full of pills...oh, and every stranger that is willing to talk to me, I give them a long narrative on my medical conditions and which pills I am due to take in the next hour. Yep that would be me. It's not a fun picture!
I will keep you all updated on my progress and hopefully a year from now I can be at the fitness level I need to be, not skinny but healthy.
